Invention to Venture Workshop in Portland

The Center for Law and Innovation hosted the third Invention to Venture Maine at the law school on June 5, 2009. Keynote speakers included entrepreneur and venture capitalist David Shaw and Science Commons director John Wilbanks. Technology transfer expert Todd Keiller served as the program's chief organizer and master of ceremonies.
This year's program was geared toward the life sciences research and commercialization community and attracted over 80 members of the academic, research, legal and financial sectors.

On October 16, 2009, the Center will partner with the Marine Law Institute to celebrate and commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Gulf of Maine case.

The Center's director, Rita Heimes, presented at the Energy Ocean 2009 Conference research conducted with students Nicholas Lund ('10) and Andrew Clearwater ('09). The presentation focused on innovative state policies to promote offshore wind energy development.

Accessing the Maine Coast - a website full of information about coastal access and use law - is now live thanks to the collaborative efforts of Maine Sea Grant, the Center for Law and Innovation, the University of Maine, the Island Institute, and the Maine Coastal Program. Working under a grant from the National Sea Grant Center, this group put together a novel online resource now being replicated by several other states.
